How do I change my email address?

Account page → Email address → Change email. You’ll need your password and a second factor.

It doesn’t take effect straight away

We send a confirmation link to the new address. Until you open it, nothing changes — your old address still signs you in and still receives everything.

Two reasons, both of which protect you:

Someone with your session can’t quietly redirect your mail. If an attacker reaches an unlocked laptop, changing your email would otherwise be their first move — it turns your account into their account. Requiring confirmation from the new mailbox means they’d need that mailbox too.

A typo fails safe. An address you can’t read is simply never confirmed, and your real one keeps working. Compare that with services that switch immediately and lock you out of your own notifications over a missing letter.

We also email your old address to say a change was requested. If that arrives and it wasn’t you, change your password and use “sign out other devices” right away.

The link expires in 24 hours

It also works only once. If it lapses, nothing is broken — sign in and request the change again.

“Unverified” on my current address

It means we’ve never confirmed you can read that mailbox. Everything works, but notifications may be going nowhere. Requesting a change to that same address and confirming it clears the flag.
